Every ten years, something magical happens in the heart of the Netherlands. From 20 to 24 August 2025, Amsterdam’s IJ-harbor will once again be the stage for SAIL Amsterdam, one of the largest maritime events in the world. This 10th edition is extra special, as it coincides with Amsterdam’s 750th birthday and 50 years of SAIL - a triple celebration of history, culture, and connection.
Expect a breathtaking SAIL-In Parade, where over 50 Tall Ships and thousands of historic vessels glide into the harbor, bringing with them crews from over 20 nations and an atmosphere of global camaraderie. With more than 2.3 million expected visitors, SAIL is a truly unifying event: United by Waves. Wander the bustling quayside, step aboard these majestic ships, explore the maritime market, and enjoy evening fireworks over the water. This is a once-in-a-decade spectacle of nautical beauty and cultural exchange - and it’s free to visit.
Stad Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
The Stad Amsterdam is a modern three-masted clipper launched in 2000, inspired by 19th-century frigates. Built with a steel hull and equipped with modern technology, it combines classic aesthetics with contemporary performance. With a length of 76 meters and a sail area of 2,200 m², it is known for its speed and elegance. As the flagship of SAIL Amsterdam, it often leads the parade, symbolizing the city's rich maritime heritage.
Amerigo Vespucci (Italy)
The Amerigo Vespucci is a full-rigged tall ship of the Italian Navy, launched in 1931. Measuring 101 meters in length, it serves as a training vessel and is renowned for its traditional design and ornate details. Often referred to as "the most beautiful ship in the world," its presence in the parade is a testament to classic naval craftsmanship.
New in 2025, SAIL On Stage brings a full concert series to the heart of the event, set against the iconic backdrop of Tall Ships. From Wednesday through Saturday, each night delivers a new vibe:
August 20 - Classical Evening: Booking presents a high-caliber performance by Concertgebouworkest Young, conducted by Elim Chan, with soloists like Karsu and Laetitia Gerards.
August 21 - "Hollandse Avond": A feel-good, sing-along night featuring Jan Smit & 3JS, in honor of this jubilant anniversary edition.
August 22 - Dance Night (Presented by Heineken): Expect top DJs and summer beats in a waterfront party setting.
