Social camping: holiday for everyone

Holidays are for everyone. Vacation is: beautiful nature, nice weather, laughing hard, discovering things, new encounters and delicious food. Alone, with your partner, companion, family or friends, vacation is forever. Unfortunately, this is not a given for everyone. Sometimes there are financial limitations, sometimes physical limitations and sometimes it just wasn't there. In this blog we highlight a number of initiatives that help people on their way, that give people an unforgettable night, weekend, week or longer and let them know: a camping or bungalow holiday is for everyone.

The Neighborhood Campsite

At Buurtcamping everything revolves around feeling at home, about social cohesion. With the whole neighborhood on holiday in your own neighbourhood, on your own field or in your own park. For three days, the residents share their Neighborhood Camp , tell the seniors how it used to be in this place, the mothers chat at the bakery or convenience store and show everyone from yup to homeless what he or she is good at (or bad) and splash its energy off.

The division of the Buurtcamping is as follows: one third is for volunteers, one third for paying campers and one third for minimum wages. In this way, diversity is guaranteed and the chance of special encounters is optimal. The Buurtcamping started in 2013 in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam. In 2019, more than 5000 local residents camped in no fewer than 35 campsites throughout the Netherlands. In 2022 there were 43 Neighborhood Campsites throughout the Netherlands, the organization joined “One against Loneliness” and it became an officially Recognized Charity.

The first dates for 2023 are already known. A neighborhood camping site will be organized in the Wooldrikpark in Enschede from 28 July to 2 August.

Travel with your Heart

This organization is committed to people who cannot afford a holiday due to financial problems. Reis met je Hart is committed to these people by giving them a bit of holiday fun. On the online platform you can nominate someone, you can donate and you inspire others to give others an unforgettable time. Know someone who could absolutely use a vacation? Nominate him or her on the Journey with your Heart platform. And do you want to know if your money is going to the right place? Check out their website for some travel stories. Several JetCamp partners are committed to the Journey with your Heart organization. The Koos Foundation (an initiative of Roompot) makes holiday homes available at Holiday Park Hunzedal and Holiday Park Weerterbergen for families who are having a hard time. Every year, more than 200 families can enjoy a fully catered stay. Landal Greenparks and Holiday Park De Krim Texel are also frequent sponsors, as are Centerparcs, Camping Koningshof , Camping Ronostrand and Europarcs.

Bio Resort

Unfortunately, a holiday and also a camping holiday are not self-evident for families with a disabled child. One is always dependent on aids and adaptations. Bio Vakantieoord is a fully adapted holiday park where families or children with supervisors can be free from their daily obligations and experience adventures together in nature. Thanks to the support of many donors, Bio Vakantieoord is a place where all children, with or without disabilities, can enjoy themselves, play safely together and where friendships are formed. There is really everything in the park. There is an adapted swimming pool, a special riding school, a nice cinema and an activity program tailored to the visitors. No dragging around with your own tools.

Our partner Villatent has realized 5 glamping camping tents in the forest edge of the BioBos, of course with adjustments. You can use all the facilities and conveniences of the Bio Holiday Resort, but you are still surrounded by nature.

The Holiday Bank

Since 2014, the De Vakantiebank Foundation has been organizing holidays for families who cannot afford it. Thanks to many partners & sponsors, families can get away for a week to enjoy and get away from everyday life.

Many of the participating campsites and holiday parks are located in the middle of the woods or near the beach and therefore perfect to recharge your batteries. The stays are offered to De Vakantiebank free of charge or at a very low cost, so that it can offer them free of charge to as many families as possible. Sponsors of De Vakantiebank, which is a recognized charity, include Bungalow Park 't Hout in Bakkeveen, RCN Holiday Park De Potten, Holiday Park De Klepperstee and the Oostappen Group.
