The island of Sardinia, being the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily, greets its guests with a breathtakingly diverse and colourful landscape, mountainous scenery, and a turquoise blue sea. Sardinia is packed full of peculiarities and mysteries. They can remain hidden from tourists unless you get into a conversation with the locals or explore the area yourself. The ancient cities, full of historical monuments, will captivate you, revealing layers of Italian and Sardinian history.

Hike through the lush, silent interior to the Nuraghic ruins of Tiscali at dusk. Climbers spider up the limestone cliffs of the crescent-shaped bay of Cala Luna, which is reached via a vertiginous coastal trail. Alternatively, hike through holm oak forests to the massive boulder-strewn canyon of Gola Su Gorropu. Windsurfers on the north coast can't get enough of the sea, while divers wax poetic over shipwrecks off Cagliari's shore, the underground Nereo Cave, and Nora's buried Roman ruins.

But what about the camping areas? There are almost 100 campsites in the area. The bulk of them are on or near beaches, feature outdoor pools, and are pet-friendly. Does that sound right? Keep reading, because this is only the beginning! These top 10 campsites are ideal for family vacations, travelling with dogs, seeking the greatest Italian restaurants, exploring Sardinian treasures, or participating in sports. So, if you're thinking of going camping in Sardinia, check out these 10 top-rated campsites.
