JetCamp researched campsites in Belgium to find out what the best Belgian camping destination is. Based on 329 campsites and almost 150,000 reviews, it has been researched which are the best and most popular municipalities for camping in Belgium.
Belgium has several cities and towns where tourists like to spend their vacation days. This research is classified at municipal level and shows that municipalities on the coast, in the Kempen and municipalities in the Ardennes towards the border with France and Luxembourg are very popular.

Every year, in addition to many domestic visitors, the Belgian coastal towns also receive many campers from the Netherlands, France and Germany. The more than 100 campsites on the coast give these holidaymakers a warm welcome. Many visitors also means many opinions and experiences.

The Ardennes is the largest nature reserve in Belgium and is very popular with tourists. Many of them visit the quiet and friendly Malmedy, Durbuy the smallest city in the Ardennes or Spa with the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The popular area has over 120 campsites to choose from.

Campsites in the Antwerp Kempen
The Antwerp Kempen has municipalities that are very popular with tourists. Between Antwerp and Eindhoven lies a beautiful region with beautiful green areas, fun theme parks (Bobbejaanland, Hidrodoe) and which is crossed by canals. The enormous popularity is also visible in the range of campsites.

When looking for the best location in Belgium to camp, it is good to know in which Belgian municipality you can find these campsites. Below is the top 5 of the municipalities with the best rated campsites in Belgium on average. When determining the top 5, a minimum number of campsites per municipality has also been taken into account, which in this case is four.
In order to find the camping hotspots in Belgium, we also investigated where the most camping sites are located in Belgium. This showed that the largest number of campsites is located in the municipality of Bredene in the province of West Flanders, namely 14. The municipality of Stavelot is number two with 12 campsites. The top 5 is concluded by the municipality of Bouillon with 7 campsites.
The coast and the Ardennes and in particular the area around Stavelot and the Spa-Francorchamps circuit are the major tourist attractions.
There are 329 campsites in Belgium spread over 10 provinces. In general, the campsites are doing well with an average rating of 7.9. On average, the campers in Walloon Brabant and Hainaut are the most satisfied with an average of 9.0 and 8.6. The 10 provinces in Belgium score on average between 9.0 and 7.8.
To determine what makes a destination popular, a popularity index has been created. This index has been developed by looking at the number of assessments per municipality, province and Belgium as a whole.
The number of reviews of campsites per municipality is divided by the most number of reviews in 1 municipality. This number is then multiplied by 100. The number that comes from this calculation determines the popularity index of an area.
Several interesting details have emerged from the popularity index. For example, it is clearly visible that the municipalities with a high popularity index are located in the Limburg Kempen with large campsites/holiday parks within their borders. In addition, municipalities on the coast and in the Ardennes score well.

At the regional level, both Flanders and Wallonia take home the top prize. The 195 campsites in the Walloon Region score an average rating of 8.0 against an average of 7.8 for the 132 campsites in the Flemish Region. In contrast , the Flemish Region wins in popularity with an index of 100 against the index 61 of the Walloon Region .

Within the borders of the Capital Region there are 2 campsites with an average score of 8.4. Although officially a hotel, you can sleep in an old Airstream caravan at the Vintage Hotel near Avenue Louise. Camp in Brussels is a camper spot in Anderlecht, near the Astrid Park.
