The best camping destinations in Croatia

Camping is very popular. We have already seen an increase in the popularity of camping holidays in the last 2 years after the corona. In 2022, this will only increase further and there will be a real gap-filling. In recent years, Croatia has seen an increase in the number of campers, many of whom decide to vacation in their own country.

JetCamp conducted research on campsites in Croatia to find out which is the best Croatian camping destination. On the basis of 277 camps with 22,596 reviews, we came to several conclusions. We looked at factors such as the average camp score by municipality and the popularity of camps across Croatia.

Camps in tourist areas

Croatia offers numerous campsites in tourist areas such as Dalmatia, Kvarner Bay and many others. Most campsites in Croatia have plenty of accommodation for rent and are equipped with all the amenities you may need during your camping trip. But the biggest advantage is that all tourist attractions are just around the corner. So don't hesitate and book your vacation now!

The beautiful region of Dalmatia offers a perfect mix of history, adventure, beautiful architecture and culinary treasures. There are more than 160 campsites in the area. Most of them are pet-friendly and offer spacious lots and well-equipped rentals. The most popular type of camping here is family camping.

What makes the camp popular? (Popularity index)

To determine what makes a camp popular, a popularity index was created. This index was developed by reviewing the number of reviews per municipality, province and the whole of Croatia.

The number of camp reviews per municipality is divided by the highest number of reviews in 1 municipality. This number is then multiplied by 100. The number resulting from this calculation determines the popularity index of an area.

For example Vrsar-Orsera. All campsites in Vrsar-Orsera (there are 7 of them) have a total of 13966 reviews. The destination with the most reviews is the town of Rovinj with 21783 reviews. The popularity index of Vrsar-Orser is then:

13966/21783*100 = 64.11, which makes a rounded score of 64.

The popularity index revealed several interesting details. It is clearly visible that the municipalities with a high popularity index are located in the area of the Istrian County with large campsites/tourist parks within their borders.

1. Grad Rovinj (Istrian County): Index: 100
