What makes a campsite popular? (Popularity Index)

To determine what makes a campsite popular, a popularity index has been created. This index has been prepared taking into account the number of opinions by municipality, autonomous communities and all of Spain.

The number of opinions of the campsites per municipality is divided by the highest number of opinions in 1 municipality. This number is multiplied by 100. The figure resulting from this calculation determines the popularity rating of an area.

The municipality of Palamós is an example. Together, the 5 campsites in the municipality of Palamós have a total of 2,990 opinions. The municipality with the most opinions is Cambrils with 14443 opinions. The popularity index of Palamós is then:

2990/14443*100 = 20.70, which makes a rounded score of 21.

The popularity rating revealed several interesting details. It is clearly visible that the municipalities with a high popularity rating are located in the Catalonia region with large campsites/holiday parks within their boundaries.
