Top 25 zoos in Europe

Zoos come in all shapes and sizes; safari, aquarium, bird, covered, and indoor. And then a zoo also has various animals such as pandas, reptiles, koalas, leopards, manatees, and maybe even baby animals!

Almost every city seems to have a zoo. But which is the nicest, biggest, newest, best, oldest, most beautiful in Europe? Below is the top 25 zoo in Europe.

Wildpark Schwarze Berge

Wildpark Schwarze Berge is located in Rosengarten, just outside Hamburg. This zoo has more than 100 animal species, including brown bears and wolves. Not all animals can be seen in the winter, because they are in hibernation then, so it is best to visit during the summer months. You can see pot-bellied pigs and deer up close in their game reserve and you can even cuddle with the goats. There is also an air show that is fun and informative.

Camping Wildpark Schwarze Berge has its own campsite! In total there are 72 places where you can park your caravan or camper. In the morning you will be awakened here by the howling of wolves.

Zoologischer Garten Berlin

When visiting Berlin, Zoologischer Garten Berlin, or Zoo Berlin, is definitely recommended! More than 20,000 animals live on an area of 35 hectares in this world-famous and oldest zoo in Germany! This zoo has a rich history and was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War. Since the war, the predator house, nocturnal animal house, monkey house, and hippo house have been built. Zoologischer Garten Berlin is a partner of Tierpark, the former West Berlin zoo.

Erlbnis Zoo Hanover

Erlebnis Zoo-Hanover is the perfect family getaway. Stroll through themed park areas such as Yukon Bay and Sambesi. Yukon Bay is all in the theme of an old coastal town, here you will find wolves, bison, polar bears, and northern sea bears. In Sambesi you will find animal species from Africa; include antelopes, hippos, rhinos, and lions. After a day of hiking, your feet need some rest. Then admire the animals from the water on a boat trip!

Zoologischer Garten Köln

This zoo is located near the center of Cologne and is about 20 hectares with about 10,000 animals. This park is known for the large elephant park and the jungle house. This beautiful zoo also has an aquarium so you can view exotic fish, sea horses, sea urchins, and real corals! At the insectarium you come face to face with a tarantula. Creepy!

Sleeping near Zoologischer Garten Köln is possible at Camping Berger. This campsite is located in nature, close to water. From here there are several marked hiking trails. If you prefer to go cycling, you can rent bikes!

Safari park Beekse Bergen

Safaripark Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek distinguishes itself because it is completely dedicated to safaris. You have the bus safari, car safari, boat safari and walking safari. Parc Zoològic de Barcelona, or Barcelona Zoo, is one of the oldest zoos in Europe and opened its doors in 1892. The zoo is located in the green heart of the city center, in Parc de la Ciutadella. At Oceanogràfic Aquarium València, seas and oceans are central. 45,000 animals swim around in the largest aquarium in Europe. In the different buildings of the aquarium, you will not only see many species of fish but also pelicans, ducks, white dolphins, walruses, and gentoo penguins.

London Zoo

London Zoo was the first scientific zoo. Previously, only research was conducted here, but now the park is also open to the public. Zoo Antwerp is the oldest zoo in Belgium. This zoo has a large number of historic buildings and is therefore recognized as a historic monument. This Danish zoo is one of Europe's oldest. It is 11 hectares and has about 4200 animals. Children will have the time of their lives in the underwater dome, right by the seals and polar bears.
